John W. Moore, Republican, and Mayor of the northern Arizona City of Williams for the past 12 years, has entered the race for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. The largest of Arizona’s districts, District 1 covers much of Arizona’s rural areas and stretches from Fredonia on the northern border all the way south to the outskirts of Tucson. In announcing his candidacy, Moore stated why he believes he is uniquely qualified to serve the District. “I’ve spent my life living, working, and serving in rural areas. I know these people, I am these people, and I know the kind of support their communities need to succeed.”

Moore has worked with governmental entities throughout northern Arizona in various capacities. For example, for the past ten years he’s served as both a Board Member and Chair of the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG), which includes Apache, Coconino, Navajo, and Yavapai Counties, to provide regional services.
Locally, Moore successfully developed sustainable sources of water for the City of Williams, a problem which had plagued the city for years.
